Founded in 1998, MUTI FILMS is a director-centered film production house based in Cape Town, South Africa.
A wealth of experience allows us to engage in large-scale and small-scale projects producing timeless video content.
MUTI FILMS assembles the perfect crew members for any size production. Our small-scale studio and editing facilities make us suitable to handle pre and post-production, from casting to editing.
Our professionalism, experience, and versatility mean happy clients and repeat business.
Our team is led by founder, director, and cinematographer Guto Bussab.
To Guto, what he is doing is a lot like chemistry: take the potent elements of pure talent, personal experience, and context, throw them all together at high speeds and watch the resultant energy shake the social structure to its foundations. From his advertising beginnings in Brazil to the multi-faceted services offered at his studios in Cape Town, Guto is absolutely committed to telling stories like nobody has ever told them before.
MUTI FILMS is a manifestation of that commitment.
Guto Bussab was born in São Paulo, Brazil, where he graduated with an Honours Degree in Social Communication at Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing in 1993. His work experience in advertising began in Brazil before moving to South Africa in 1994 to work as an art director, where he won prestigious international accolades such as the Cannes International Advertising Festival, New York Festivals, London Awards as well as Loerie Awards locally for the advertising agency Leo Burnett. A passion for film eventually led him to launch his own film production house Muti Films, in 1998. Since then, he has directed and cinematographer for many TV commercials locally and abroad for brands including MTN, British Airways, Western Union, Sobragui, Richfield, and SASFIN bank, as well as several music videos, branded content, and the web series GAZE.
The critically acclaimed feature film Gangster’s Paradise: JERUSALEMA, directed by Ralph Ziman, a Muti Films production, was co-produced by Guto Bussab.
Guto was part of the team that brought the title World Design Capital 2014 to the city of Cape Town, becoming one of the programme’s curators. Guto is also a multidisciplinary fine artist, having exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in South Africa and abroad.
